Frequently asked questions…

What paperwork do I need?

Copies of your ID. Drivers Licence, Passport or Birth Certificate

A few legal forms; Notice of Intended Marriage, Declaration of No Legal Impediment to Marriage, Two Official Certificates of Marriage and Certificate of Marriage.

I will help with all of these.

What are the legal requirements?

  • You need ID that proves your identity and Date and Place of Birth.

  • You must not be already married.

  • You must both be consenting.

  • You must be over 18 (one of you may be 16 with court consent).

  • You must give at least one month's (30 days) notice with a Notice of Intended Marriage form.

  • You need two people, over 18, to witness your marriage.

Can we get married next week?

As much I would love to be that spontaneous, there is a legal requirement for 30 days notice to the marriage. There are some exceptions to this, however only after seeking an exemption from a prescribed authority.

Elopement Style v Big Wedding Style?

An elopement is colloquially speaking, often used to refer to a marriage conducted in a secretive fashion, usually involving only the couple and a few guests.

Whereas a big wedding is planned over a long period and has all of your friends and family in attendance. Costs a bit more as well!

How long should I expect the ceremony to be?

Depends on the ceremony you are after, a legals only ceremony will last for about 10 mins but the more personalised ones can go for approx 20-30 mins. If you add in a ritual (like a physical tying of the knot or sand blending) it can add another 5-10 mins.

Can we write our own vows?

Hell yes! That is the point of your big, public profession of love (right?). I have a heap of tips and tricks to make them epic.

But you also don’t have to, we can go traditional as well.
